# Rentals

> Rent an item against a pre-authorized deposit and close out the return.

The **Rentals** counter runs the in-store rental desk: rent an item against a
pre-authorized deposit, then close out the return. It opens on the managed list of
rentals with search, a status filter and pagination.

## Creating a rental

**New rental** opens the create form: the daily rate, the number of days, and the
deposit amount and reference (`POST /v1/rentals`). Creating a rental requires the
`pos.rental.manage` permission.

## Managing a rental

From a rental row you can:

* **Return** the item — the return modal records the returned condition.
* **Mark overdue** — flag a rental past its due date.

The list is read live and scoped to the store (`GET /v1/rentals`). All rental logic
runs in the shared rental domain; dates are handled consistently across the flow.
