Markdowns are temporary price reductions on a product. Unlike a store price, which is a durable per-store override, a markdown is a reduction applied on top of the effective price — the mechanism behind clearance and sale pricing.

What it is for

  • Reduce the price of a product for a period, without changing its reference or store price.
  • Keep clearance and sale pricing separate from master data, so it is easy to see, apply and remove.

Key screens and actions

1

Browse markdowns

The markdown screen lists products and their current markdown state.
2

Apply a markdown

Set a markdown on a product; it takes effect on the price rung up at the till.
3

Remove a markdown

Clear the markdown to return the product to its non-marked-down price.
The effective price a customer pays resolves the reference price, any store override and any active markdown. See also promotions and coupons for rule-based and code-based discounts, which are a different mechanism.
